Fiona meets...................Sharon Howlett of Choyé par Sharon 5 Churchill Road, Gorefield, Wisbech

F. How long have you been in the beauty industry?
S. I first had a taste of the beauty industry back in 1988.

F What was it that first interested you and made you decide on this career path?
S. In 1988 I did a beauty course as my friend went on it and I had no idea what I wanted to do so I just went on the course with her, then in 2004 I went on a holistic taster course again with a friend, and we both loved it so I did lots of beauty and holistic courses and refresher courses. When I did the taster course I wanted to be the one standing there teaching it and knew in time I would be teaching beauty and holistic courses.

F. How long have you ben training and what was your motivation behind starting on business woman of the yearthis field of the industry?
S. I opened CPS training academy on Sept 2008 as I missed teaching so much and wanted to share my experiences with other people and give them good education and confidence, knowledge to go out and give a good service to the public.

F. Do you find that more and more mature students are joining the industry?
S. Yes I have noticed the mature students are becoming learners both at the academy and at the local college which is nice as you know they really do want to be there and learning a new skill.

F. How did you feel when you learned you had been nominated for business woman of the year?
S. I was sat round a friends house doing her a pedicure at the time when I was contacted via my mobile to say I had been nominated for business person of the year, and got to the last three. (It was Business Person of the Year, me and 2 other men were nominated) I thought it was a wind up to be honest at first, as my friends do like to play jokes on me and pretend to be someone else so I went along with it until I got the letter through the door with invitations then it hit me and god I panicked they cant be right I am not a business person, I just run a small salon and training academy I am nothing big, and to this day I still do not know who put my name forward for an award.

F. and how did you feel when they called your name out as the winner?
S. shocked was an understatement I was totally amazed that I had been chosen over these 2 men whose businesses were more established and were heavy advertisers in the local press. So everyone knew them to me plodding along in my own world and getting good business from word of mouth. I still don’t know how I won to be honest when I ever think about it.

F. It is indeed a great honour you must be so proud, so what is next for you?
S. I suppose so I don’t really think about it to be honest I just do my job from day to day and hope I am still here in years to come. I think my family and friends were so proud I had won the award as they were telling people for weeks I seem to recall.

F. You were very instrumental in the Safe Tan Summer Campaign, do you think you will be continuing with that and if so what do you hope to achieve in the future with this particular campaign?
S. I really enjoyed working along side you Fiona and raising lots of money for the safe tan summer campaign. I also help out with a lot of local charities to help them raise vital funds for their chosen causes. It is nice to be able to help other people and give spare time to do free pamper parties to raise money or donate vouchers to auctions, have coffee mornings to raise money and the disco raised some money for BSF.

F. Do you have plans for the future with expanding the business?
S. I certainly do have plans for the salon and training academy I am at this moment trying to find bigger premises so hopefully I will have new premises very soon

F. Do you have any plans for new treatments and training programmes?
S. Yes I am in the process of writing 3 more training manuals and going to be adding a couple of more treatments to the treatment list for the summer.

F Sharon it has been lovely speaking with you and I really do wish you continued success in the future
S. xx thank you Fiona it was a pleasure speaking with you xx
